About Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis has an interesting history. In the 20^th century alone, it’s had three of the largest world markets . These were in spot cotton, hardwood lumber, and mules. But, it also contributed greatly to the development of blues music and rock-and-roll being one of the largest cities, like New Orleans , close to the source of many indigenous American musical styles.

Come to the city in May and experience the Memphis in May festival, which collects four smaller festivals together in one month. These four include The Beale Street Music Festival, International Week, The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, and Sunset Symphony.

Memphis supports an NBA team, the Grizzlies, as well as hockey, football, and baseball. And, Jerry Lawler, the wrestler, hails from here. So, it’s not all Elvis and Sun Studios even though they get a lot of press. Enjoy the parks and the food, too. This city will give you plenty to do.
