MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A state police agency has identified a man shot to death by sheriff's deputies outside a Tennessee hotel.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies were involved in a shooting about 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a hotel parking lot in Memphis.
Sheriff's officials said the deputies were at the hotel serving a warrant for a person wanted on drug and weapons charges. He was identified Friday as 40-year-old Jason Matthew Hill, who is white.
TBI says in a statement that Hill saw deputies approaching and reportedly fired on them. The agency says at least two deputies returned fire, hitting Hill.
TBI investigates fatal shootings involving law enforcement at the district attorney's request. The deputies haven't been identified.
